Demand for wild-harvest berries across the European Union continues to grow, creating new opportunities for Ukrainian producers and collectors. The most sought-after products include bilberries (wild blueberries), cranberries, and blackberries, which are widely used in the food, beverage, confectionery, and health-food industries. Organic-certified berries remain particularly attractive as European consumers increasingly favor sustainable and natural products.
Ukraine has become one of the EU's leading suppliers of wild organic berries. In 2025, wild-harvest berries accounted for 11.8 thousand tonnes of exports worth €27.1 million, making them the foundation of the country's organic berry trade. Organic bilberries remain the dominant product, with nearly all organic bilberry imports into the European Union originating from Ukraine. Ukrainian suppliers also account for approximately 30% of EU organic raspberry imports and 45% of organic blackberry imports.
The main destinations for Ukrainian organic berries are Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, and Austria. At the same time, exporters are increasingly focusing on higher-value products such as frozen berries, dried berries, and processed food ingredients rather than raw materials alone. This shift allows producers to improve profitability while strengthening their position in European supply chains.
Experts expect demand for wild-harvest berries in the EU to remain strong as the organic food sector continues to expand. For Ukrainian companies, long-term success will depend on maintaining certification standards, investing in processing capacity, ensuring reliable cold-chain logistics, and delivering consistent product quality. These factors are expected to keep Ukraine among Europe's leading suppliers of organic wild berries.
