Ukrainian agricultural products have influenced global markets for more than two centuries. As early as 1839, members of the British Parliament debated the impact of inexpensive Odessa wheat on local farmers. Today, Ukrainian grain, sunflower oil, honey, and many other products continue to play an important role in international food trade. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence, Latifundist compiled a list of 18 agricultural products that have made the country known around the world.
The selection combines historic agricultural brands with today's export leaders. It includes Odessa wheat, sunflower oil, sunflower meal, sugar, honey, rapeseed oil, corn, Ukrainian raspberries, tomato paste, eggs, salo, Nizhyn cucumbers, the Renet Simirenko apple variety, and industrial hemp developed by the Hlukhiv breeding school. Some of these products became global export symbols, while others play a vital role in international food supply chains.
Over recent decades, Ukraine has become the world's leading exporter of sunflower oil and one of the largest suppliers of grain, honey, and sunflower meal. At the same time, products such as raspberries and tomato paste often reach European consumers under foreign brands despite being produced in Ukraine, highlighting the country's significant role in global agricultural value chains.
The authors emphasize that the list is intentionally selective rather than exhaustive. Nevertheless, it illustrates the diversity and international importance of Ukraine's agricultural production. Despite war, logistical disruptions, and changing trade routes, Ukrainian food products remain competitive worldwide, and many have become an enduring part of global agricultural history.
