In September 2026, Ukraine continued clearing liberated territories of mines and other explosive ordnance. During the month, units of the Ministry of Defence cleared 1,347 hectares, including 339.84 hectares of agricultural land. Returning these areas to safe use is particularly important for agricultural regions where contamination directly limits farming activities.

In addition to farmland, specialists surveyed and cleared 21.31 km of roads and 40.4 km of railway tracks in September. During the month, demining teams detected and destroyed 364 items of explosive ordnance. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, a total of 483,366 explosive items have been destroyed.

Units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the State Special Transport Service are involved in clearing liberated territories. Explosive ordnance disposal teams of the National Police and pyrotechnic units of the State Emergency Service are also participating. Demining includes not only the disposal of explosive devices but also surveys required to confirm that territories are safe and can be returned to use.

At the same time, Ukraine operates a separate state programme for humanitarian demining of agricultural land. Under this programme, the government can compensate agricultural producers for 100% of eligible demining costs. By the end of July, 100 contracts had already been completed and 16,400 hectares of agricultural land returned to productive use under the programme. Agricultural land is therefore being cleared through several mechanisms, including the work of state services and government-supported professional humanitarian demining.
