A new industrial park focused primarily on agricultural processing is being developed in Ukraine’s Odesa region. The Cabinet of Ministers has included the Bessarabian AgroTech Park in the national Register of Industrial Parks. The 23-hectare site will be located in the city of Artsyz, Bolhrad district, and the project was initiated by the Artsyz City Council.
The park will focus mainly on the food industry. Planned activities include the processing and preservation of potatoes, fruit and vegetables, as well as the production of vegetable oils and animal fats. Other food manufacturing activities and alternative energy projects are also expected to be developed. This could allow a larger share of agricultural raw materials produced in the region to be processed locally.
According to preliminary estimates, approximately UAH 884 million is expected to be invested in developing the Bessarabian AgroTech Park. Funding is expected to come from the project initiator, private investors and the management company. In addition, the management company may qualify for up to UAH 150 million in non-repayable state support for infrastructure development. The project is expected to create around 1,000 new jobs.
For the agricultural sector of Odesa region, the new park could provide an additional opportunity to develop processing rather than relying primarily on the production and sale of raw materials. This would help generate more added value within the region, create additional demand for products from local farmers and support the development of the food industry. Following the latest government decision, Ukraine now has 125 registered industrial parks, with total investment attracted to the sector exceeding UAH 45 billion.
