Canada has extended its duty-free import regime for Ukrainian goods for another year, reaffirming its economic support for Ukraine during the ongoing war. The decision allows Ukrainian producers to continue exporting goods to the Canadian market without paying import duties until June 9, 2026. The preferential regime has been in place since June 2022 and has been renewed annually by the Canadian government.
According to the Canadian Department of Finance, Ukrainian companies have exported more than USD 35 million worth of goods to Canada under the program, while Canadian importers have saved approximately USD 8.5 million in customs duties. The latest extension is expected to generate an additional USD 1.2 million in savings over the next year.
The duty-free regime covers the vast majority of Ukrainian products and complements the existing Canada–Ukraine Free Trade Agreement. For Ukrainian businesses, it provides easier access to the North American market, helps maintain competitiveness, and creates additional opportunities to diversify export destinations. These benefits are particularly important given ongoing logistical challenges and restrictions affecting some traditional export routes.
Analysts emphasize that Canada’s decision carries both economic and strategic importance. It reflects the commitment of international partners to support Ukrainian businesses and strengthen their integration into global supply chains. For the agricultural sector, which remains one of Ukraine’s most important sources of export revenue, continued preferential access to foreign markets is viewed as a key factor in maintaining stability and supporting future growth.
