July 2026 marked five years since Ukraine launched its agricultural land market. During this period, more than 330,000 land sale transactions have been completed, covering approximately 1 million hectares. The average price of agricultural land has nearly doubled, increasing from about UAH 30,000 per hectare at the market's launch to more than UAH 64,000–66,000 per hectare in 2026.

While many farmers initially viewed the land market with caution or skepticism, their attitude has gradually become more pragmatic. Farms that once relied entirely on leased land are increasingly purchasing plots to secure long-term production, protect their land base, and support future investment.

Market activity has also expanded significantly. The number of land transactions increased from around 10,000 in 2021 to more than 164,000 in 2025, while legal entities now account for over 30% of land purchases following their admission to the market. The largest sales volumes are concentrated in the Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions, which remain among Ukraine's leading agricultural areas.

At the same time, farmers emphasize that access to financing remains one of the biggest challenges. For many agricultural businesses, purchasing land is only feasible with affordable credit and government support. Even so, the first five years of the land market have shown that fears of mass land sell-offs did not materialize, while agricultural land has increasingly become a strategic asset for the long-term development of Ukrainian farming.
