Ukraine has extended the simplified labelling requirements for food and feed products. The Cabinet of Ministers has postponed the restoration of standard rules until April 1, 2027. Full requirements were previously expected to return on October 1, 2026, but following requests from producers and suppliers, the government decided to extend the transition period by another six months.
The simplified regime was introduced in 2022 following the start of the full-scale war and disruptions to supplies of raw materials and packaging. Under certain conditions, some information on product labels may differ from the product’s actual parameters or composition. However, key information must remain accurate, including the product name, quantity, expiry date and information about substances that may cause allergic reactions or intolerances.
Returning to the standard rules will mean stricter requirements. Producers and importers will have to provide mandatory information in Ukrainian, while information on packaging must accurately reflect the actual composition of the product, including its ingredients, nutritional value and allergens. Businesses were originally expected to fully return to these requirements from October 1, 2026.
The latest postponement is linked to practical difficulties faced by businesses. Due to damage to warehouses and product inventories, producers and suppliers are not always able to quickly relabel goods and provide all required information in Ukrainian. The government also took into account the need to maintain uninterrupted supplies during the difficult autumn and winter period. After April 1, 2027, the situation is expected to be reviewed again before further decisions on the labelling regime are made.
