Kernel has become the initiator and first testing site for a new type of Ukrainian-made modular grain storage facility. The solution was developed by a Ukrainian manufacturer specifically for the agricultural holding. Kernel has already purchased the structures, which will increase its total simultaneous grain storage capacity by 40,000 tonnes.

The key advantage of the technology is its rapid installation and mobility. Kernel assembled its first modular storage facility in just four days, and another two days were required to load 3,400 tonnes of grain. The structures can be installed on hard-surface sites and can later be dismantled, relocated and assembled again at another location.

Another advantage is more efficient use of available space. According to the company, an area that can accommodate up to 1,000 tonnes of grain in conventional polymer grain bags can store approximately 3.5 times more — up to 3,500 tonnes — using the modular system. This makes it possible to quickly create additional storage capacity without constructing a permanent grain elevator.

Demand for such solutions is particularly relevant amid unstable export logistics, when grain may have to remain in Ukraine for longer periods. Kernel plans to use the additional capacity not only for its own harvest but also to store grain for other Ukrainian agricultural producers. For security reasons, the company does not disclose the name of the manufacturer or the locations where the facilities are being installed. The modular format could become one of the fastest ways to expand reserve grain storage capacity in Ukraine.
